Meditation
What is mindfulness- It is a way to relax the mind and to be free of stress or anxiety.
· It can lower blood pressure and heart rate, while calming the mind
· It is done by focusing your attention on one thing deeply and intentionally
· Meditation is a deeper form of mindfulness to achieve a calm relaxed yet alert state of mind.
· It takes many years of practice to achieve this true meditative state.
· It is best to start with little steps and slowly progress to deeper levels of meditation
· When asleep the brain produces Delta waves
· When relaxed and calm with no worrying thoughts the brain produced Alpha waves
· When in a deep relaxed yet alert meditative state, the brain produces the optimum theta brain waves-when the best ideas are formed.
· It is an opportunity to be in stillness where universal energy can penetrate your being to bring you many gifts that you can only imagine.
There are many tools available that assist the process of mindfulness or meditation
· Some use the senses to begin to focus on one thing at a time This is easily done while sitting outside and closing your eyes. Find a comfortable seat and take a few deep breathes to relax the body, then concentrate on one only sense. Sound is a good start. Firstly, focus on the sounds nearest to you, then go further out to the sounds further away, and then lastly concentrate on the sounds in the far distance. Begin by doing this for one to five minutes daily, then gradually increasing the time every day.
· As other thoughts enter your mind, try to bring them back to the working sense.
· Another tool for mindfulness is doing a walking mindfulness. When walking outside maybe along the local streets, try to concentrate on the sounds around you. You will find that the more you focus, the more you will hear. You could change it to focusing on the things you see.
· Or you could try focusing all the senses on one object. I often do this outside in nature as there is so much beauty to be observed. Try focusing on the trunk of a tree or a flower or the rocks. Give it your full attention and try to see, hear, smell as much as possible.
· As daily thoughts enter the mind simply dismiss them and bring your attention back to the object being observed.
· The more you focus the more you will become aware of.
· Again, you will be amazed at how much clarity and information you gain.
· We lead such busy lives that we often miss things without realising it.

Some people use the strategy of focusing on the breath. This is a good start to increasing the state of mind into mindfulness.
· Again, find a comfortable place to sit, preferably with a straight back. Take a few deep breaths to relax then with closed eyes take your attention to the breath. Be aware of the rise and fall of your chest as you breathe in and out.
· As you breath in try to visualise the air being breathed through the nose then into your lungs.
· Then as you breath out visualise the air leaving your lungs and then out through your nose.
· Imagine your body relaxing more with each breath.
· It takes a bit of practice but after a while you will find it easier to remain focused while you slowly move into a more meditative state. Now you are meditating.
· There are many meditations available on you tube. It is a good idea to try a few different ones and find one that suits you.
· The main idea is to be aware of the thoughts as they enter the mind while also dismissing them Just let them pass by without any attention.
· Try to stop negative mindless chatter from overwhelming yourself.
· Transcendental meditation is a deep form of meditation that takes a long time to master so be kind to yourself and start with a simple easy mindfulness where you slowly evolve into deeper meditations. This is the state of no thoughts and no visions but complete stillness.
· Some people refer to being in the present moment or the Now!
· Again, this takes practice, but you can start with mindful walking, and this will take you to be in the moment, where there are no thoughts of past or future.
· Some people find that guided meditations are easier because they don’t have to concentrate on anything except the sense of listening.
· Regular meditation leads to being able to stay in the moment where best decisions are made
· The longer you make time for regular meditative practice the better your life will be, and you will receive amazing things
· Eventually you will find yourself living in the moment for most of your time. People, animals’ birds, insects will be attracted to you, and you will be at the right place at the right time. Things will seem to fall from out of mid-air and will be the things you need.
· You will have a quiet confidence that gets things done.
· Keep in mind to act out of need never greed.
